Another Week - More Exciting Things Building

Another week has gone by and things are really growing for Kozy Korner! I've started a website - www.kozykornerbookcafe.com - and have worked to develop the different sections there. Next up I'll be adding book lists, reviews and activities. I also want to get a section developed with parenting books & resources. I know I've read through a ton and I'm guessing many of you have and I think it would be great to share some of the best! So, if you've got some great books or articles that you've read, please head on over to the website and (when the section is up and running) share them with us!

In the meantime, I'm looking forward to my Kozy Korner Cafe Jr. buddies joining me tomorrow! We've read Planting a Rainbow by Lois Ehlert and we're going to plant flowers!! Should be a GREAT morning! There's always room for more if anyone else would like to join us! :)

Have a great weekend!

Springtime - Ideas are Blooming!

The sun is shining, the weather is beautiful and all of a sudden windows of creativity are opening in my mind! Ideas for my Kozy Korner monthly gatherings, resources for teachers and parents, things to share and develop - I'm so excited! I can definitely tell that a new chapter is beginning in my life.

My eventual goal is to open a children's bookstore in Wadsworth. All of the projects and plans that I am working on now will lead to this goal at some point. I am having so much fun with my monthly gatherings. My two current groups - Kozy Korner Book Cafe (grades 1-3) and Kozy Korner Cafe Jr. (ages 3-kindergarten) have now been meeting for 4 months and each month gets better and better. The kids come in enthusiastic about what they are reading and eager to talk about our book-of-the-month. The crafts have been fun and lunch at Whole Day is always enjoyable. There's room for more reading friends if your child, grandchild, niece, nephew, friend-of-a-friend would enjoy participating. Just contact me and we'll get things rolling!

In May I am beginning a third group - Kozy Korner Gatherings for Girls. This group is for girls in grades 3-5. We'll be reading more challenging books that deal with girl issues and fun girl "stuff." Being the mom to sons, it will be interesting to me to see how young girls think!

Yesterday I had a little brainstorm about writing a book!!! I've never really considered that before, even though I love love love to read...I was telling funny stories about what my son Landon had been doing over the past few weeks and realized that they could lead to a great book - one in which we examine some of the "oh no he didn't" moments in our children's lives and the life lessons that we learn from them. So, as that newest wheel of mine begins to spin, I'm inviting you to share some funny stories from your children's "growing up" time - no matter how old they are now! Feel free to add your comment to this post - I'm sure we'd all love to hear about them!

Have a great day everyone - soak up this beautiful sunshine and hug your kids!

New Kozy Korner Book Group!

Beginning in May we will have a new reading club group: Kozy Korner Gatherings for Girls. This group is designed for third, fourth & fifth grade girls who are ready to read more challenging chapter books. We will pick books that are very girl oriented & appropriate and from a variety of genres.

This group will meet on the first Wednesday of the month, from 4:15 pm - 5:30 pm at Whole Day Cafe. The cost for this group will be $20 for the first month's Gathering and $15 for each following month. The cost covers the copy of the book, craft and dinner for each participant.

Our first Gathering will be Wednesday, May 5th. At this Gathering we'll receive our first reading selection, begin our special Girls' Group craft and enjoy dinner together. Girls can choose from Toasted Cheese, Mac & Cheese, PB & J or Turkey Sandwich or Wrap. We have an exciting craft planned that I'm sure the girls will LOVE!

If your daughter is interested in participating in this group, please contact me at mlinn3@aol.com or through a phone call or note to Isham School. I'm looking forward to a fun adventure with our young lady readers!

Welcome!

Inspired by my friend Patti Floren, I have decided to begin an online spot to share my love of reading - specifically reading with children!

My goal for this blog is to eventually have areas that address:

*Kozy Korner Book Cafe and Cafe Junior monthly activities
(Wadsworth Location)

*Spotlight on great children's literature

*Activities families and teachers can do with different books

*Reviews of great parenting books

*An opportunity for parents to share, question and discuss parenting issues, reading issues,
fun things their families have done, etc.

*Great "grown-up" reads - time for summer reading!

*Links to other sites with great ideas too!

I hope that friends - old and new! - will find things here to inspire, encourage, support, resolve and provide enjoyment for their kids in the wonderful world of reading!
